What is boudoir photography?
Boudoir doesn’t have to be sexual. But it is intimate.
A general description of boudoir photography is this—
A style of photography that primarily features a subject in an intimate, sometimes erotic way, in a studio or bedroom setting, primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subjects and their romantic partners.
Pretty straight forward. But I hate that description. I think it’s a pretty limiting view on what boudoir can be and offer.
Most people’s first idea of boudoir photography is that it’s either going to be cheesy, or hyper sexual. You may think it involves overly edited body and skin smoothening, uncomfortable posing, and in an outdated, dark and moody, warehouse studio setting.
Here’s what I say —
Boudoir photography is an intimate experience that should celebrate your body and your personality by expressing yourself how you want to be expressed. Not how somebody told you to express yourself.
These images created should make you feel like a work of art. Not an object.
While doing a boudoir session as a gift for your s/o is a super popular way to go (and we’re all for it), I want to make it very clear that these session can be 100% just for yourself, to truly celebrate your body and beauty at any stage of life.
The bottom line is this — Boudoir doesn’t have to be sexual. But it is intimate. It is vulnerable. You’re expressing a private side of yourself, physically and emotionally. And celebrating it through beautiful imagery.
A boudoir session doesn’t have to be intimidating. In fact, it should be anything but. If your ready to experience a session for yourself, head over to the Contact page and send us a message (or if you just have more questions!) and we’d love to reach out to you!
